Rick Okie

Award Winning Filmmaker, Executive Producer, "Goin' Back"

Why I am a Marauder

I am the child of two World War II veterans.  My parents met and fell in love in the Philippines while serving on MacArthur's staff.

Dad was a Captain in Army Intelligence, Mom was a Captain in the WACS. I was fortunate enough that they both made it home alive so that I could appear on the scene in 1953.

In the year 2000 I was given the opportunity to travel with a group of Bataan Death March survivors back to the Philippines to document on film their journey to the place where they were once POWs.  This was followed by subsequent film trips with veterans to Iwo Jima, Korea, and Vietnam. These epic

journeys cemented in my lifelong commitment to the cause of veterans, POWs, and MIAs.

Now, with Moore's Marauders, I can further the task of bringing closure to families less fortunate than my own.  When I stood at the foot of the Wall of the Missing in the Manila national Cemetery I realized just how many Americans not only gave their lives, but were never recovered, I knew this was something I had to do.

I am proud to be a Marauder.

Background: Richard C. Okie

Born: January 1, 1953, Los Angeles, CA

Current Residence: Sedona, AZ

Marital Status: Married (wife, Rosine), with six children (Skyler, Trevor, Carey Anne, Ryan, Kevin and Keith)

Education: Bachelor of Arts, Yale University, 1974

Rick Okie has been, in no particular order, a professional musician, a commercial fisherman, a documentary producer/director, a professional chess player, a window washer, a Network Television Executive, a teacher, a television Director, a dump-truck driver, and the Creator and Executive Producer of numerous network TV shows.  But he was first, and will be to the last, a Writer.

After graduating from Yale, Rick entered the executive ranks at CBS and NBC where he attained the rank of Director of Current Programs.  He jumped ship to begin a long and productive career at Universal Studios as a writer/producer of both Drama and Comedy.   He was nominated for both Emmy and Edgar Awards during this time; some of the hits he produced included MAJOR DAD (which he created), and QUANTUM LEAP, among others.

The growth of syndication and cable broadened Rick’s career horizons and he was  Executive Producer of long-running hits like RENEGADE (Cannell/New World) and EARTH: FINAL CONFLICT (Tribune), among others.  A creative highlight was writing and producing the critically-acclaimed WITCHBLADE for TNT.

Documentary next captured Rick’s imagination and the result was GOIN’ BACK, a world-traveling elegy to America’s war veterans produced for Discovery Military Channel.  The series spanned World War Two, Korea, and Vietnam, and featured veterans of all three wars returning to the battlefields which shaped their lives to deliver their stories and achieve emotional catharsis.

Rick is also the founding partner of www.videoguitarlessons.com, a music instruction website which feeds another side of his multi-faceted soul.

Rick continues to write and produce from his home in Sedona, Arizona where he lives with Rosine, his wife of 23 years, and the three youngest of their six children.
