Troy Williams

Deep Sea Diver, Sales and Marketing Executive

Why I am a Marauder

During my youth I was raised by my extended family. My father Lt. Col George Williams served in the US Army for twenty two years and did three tours in Nam. He was decorated with the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.

My Great Uncle Dave was one of my many Uncles who helped raise me in my fathers  absence. He served with E Medical Co.2nd Medical Battalion, 2nd Marine Division. E Medical  was attached to the 8th Regimental Combat Team.

For one reason or another, the 8th  got a lot of the dirty assignments. After the battles of Saipan & Tinian, they were sent to a little island named Iheya Shima. It turned out to be the closest island occupied by the U.S. near Japan.

They were then shipped back to Saipan for a few months and sent to Okinawa for the invasion. He left active duty in January 1946. They would take me fishing and to ball games. I spent many an evening with the VFW post guys, all of whom acted as my dad in my fathers absence. I never realized as a child how much these Vets were helping my Father, myself and my family until later in life. This is now pay back time, anything I can do to ease a family or help them to achieve some release would make me proud to be my fathers', all of them, son.
