World War II
Battles
World War II
was the greatest human conflict in history, dwarfing all other wars. It was
fought between the Allies (the U.S., Britain, France, Canada, Australia, Russia,
and others) and the Axis Powers (primarily Germany, Japan, and Italy). In
Europe, it
began on September 1st,
1939 with Germany's invasion of Poland.
In the Pacific it began on September 18th, 1931
with Japan's invasion of Mukden, China. It ended for the entire world on
August 12, 1945 with Japan's
"unconditional surrender".
As an
educational service, Moore’s Marauders will be providing concise histories featuring
articles from well known historians of
the war’s most significant campaigns and battles. Through
this,
the public can have an easily
readable context in which to understand the war, and to appreciate the
sacrifices and contributions of its soldiers – especially those who never came
home.
